Tomorrow is the beginning of Green Office Week and it’s the chance for you to make some really awesome changes in your work environment and to encourage your colleagues to do the same.
Here are some office greening ideas:
Unplug the printer
It makes printing more of a hassle and it also makes you think twice before you print. Printing wastes paper and uses energy and ink.
Unplug everything at the end of the day
Shut down your computer, turn off the lights and put the office on standby mode until you get back. Turn off lights in meeting rooms if they aren’t being used (and projectors too).
Green Coffee
Yes you can go green when you indulge in coffee every morning – don’t buy the paper cup coffee, rather use a mug. If the coffee at work tastes vile, lobby for better coffee so that you don’t end up buying coffee (you’ll save in terms of money and paper cups). Alternatively convince the coffee merchants that you should have coffee dispensed into your own mug instead of into a paper cup.
Reduce, reuse, recycle
Yes, this can happen even in the office – make sure that your company gets recycling bins and puts them in convenient places in the office. Get a recycling company to collect from the office, or get volunteers to distribute the trash at recycling centres.
Don’t buy lunch, make your own
Again, this is about the packaging material used in bought lunches. And making your own nutritious lunch the night before is so much more rewarding then forking out hard-earned moolah for a sad sandwich.
