It’s back: Mandela Remembrance Walk and Run returns in December
Here’s a fun opportunity to honour the great old man. The world will take to the streets to grace the 2021 Mandela Remembrance Walk and Run, the event organisers confirmed on Friday 25 October.
2021 MANDELA REMEMBRANCE WALK AND RUN
Following the COVID-19 pandemic’s heights in December 2020, better health work to fight the virus has meant the event will bounce back to its original form on Sunday 5 December 2021.
Up to 1000 vaccinated runners will be allowed to compete in Tshwane, while the rest of the world will also take part in The Mandela Remembrance Walk and Run (MRWR) at the same time by virtual means.
“The event, which honours and remembers iconic global statesperson Nelson Mandela, will again take place in hybrid fashion, with the physical form at Tshwane’s Union Buildings for a restricted number of 1000 people, and the virtual form being open to participants globally who wish to take part in this special event,” the official statement said.
“Entrants to the event – which has the options of a virtual 5-kilometre walk or 10 and 21-kilometre run – in 2020 came from as far afield as India, Kenya, Nigeria, Portugal, United States, Netherlands, Finland, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Guatemala and Sudan.”
